My Mother's Mother's Day

May 16, 2008 / by donnamg

You know, I believe that Mother Nature really appreciates Mother's Day, too.  After all, she certainly gives us a lot to capture our attention so we can notice her and all that she does.

We had had a number of gray, chilly, cloudy, and rainy days all in a row leading up to this year's Mother's Day.  But, just as I was heading out the door, the sun was starting to appear, as if to say, "Let Mother's Day begin!"

What caught my eye first was the little tree in front of my porch, the one that had only recently been covered with nothing but beautiful blossoms.  I could see there were a lot less blossoms, but I could also see that the tree now had all new tender leaves.

Of course, blossoms do fall off, and all that wind and rain from the previous days had helped hasten that process.  To many, this may only appear to be an ugly piece of ground, but I see it as Mother Nature's way of spreading her blossoms like confetti.  And, on Mother's Day, what could be nicer than having some confetti!

By the time I made it to my car, the sky had cleared even more and the sun was filtering through some of the larger trees' branches.  Where a heavily pink-blossomed tree once stood not far from my house, a very green-leafed tree now stood.  The confetti from that tree blanketed the ground almost completely.

It was time to go visit Mom, which I, of course, did.  Dad and I watched a movie with her and I couldn't help but admire the flowers that my brother had sent to her or the sweet card my father had given to her.  I brought her a card, too, and a box of some of her favorite candy.

When the movie was over, the sky had become a mixture of sun and clouds, but it was still a very nice day.  Though rather windy, it was mild enough to enjoy a nice leisurely drive.  So, I took Mom and Dad with me for a ride.  Edie was able to join us for this little jaunt, so we picked her up and rode around town, admiring all the trees, flowers, and other springtime scenes.  We then took a nice drive through the state park and then back into town.

Well, my mom happens to love ice cream...maybe as much as I do.  So, as we approached the edge of the downtown area on the tail end of the harbor, I pulled into a little ice cream shop.

While Dad and Edie stayed sitting in the car, Mom and I braved the wind and sat outdoors to enjoy our ice cream cones.  By the way, Mom had pina colada ice cream.  (You can't see mine, but mine was German chocolate cake.)

We did just a little more driving before I took Mom and Dad back to their place.  When Edie and I got home, we couldn't help but notice our scrawny little, barely 2-feet tall, wanna-be of a plant in our yard.  Although we had noticed that flowers had started to appear, it was undoubtedly Mother Nature's gift of sunshine that day that transformed it into thing of beauty.

My mother's Mother's Day turned out to be a real lovely day! You know, I don't think I'm going to wait a whole year before I enjoy spending another beautiful day with my mom.

Yeah...at first it seemed it was going to be another totally gloomy day, but it turned out to be pretty nice.  Thanks, AJ, I did have a nice time with my mother.

Oh, ana, it would have been impossible not to SEE Mother Nature that day!  She was everywhere, from the weather to the flowers, to the "confettie", and even to the ice cream!  After all, where does ice cream come from?  Follow the "chain" downward and you reach the soil and the grass.  (That's why ice cream is so good for us!  So, Mom and I make sure we eat an awful lot of it! lol)

What a wonderful post.  Family is so important and a special day like what you shared shouldn't be only once a year.  Great pictures! (as always)

Family is important, I agree with you, that is why I don't wait around to do things and share things just once a year.

God does have a weakness towards Mothers, he gave Mary the gift to mankind forever didn't he/she.  Glad it was a great one Donna.
