July 3rd

July 6, 2008 / by donnamg

I'm warning you right up front that this is an extremely long post.  It is most definitely a photo blog as I record the highlights of the day before the July 4 holiday.  I think you will enjoy this pictorial "journey", though, as the pictures tend to be of fairly good quality and the day does tend to move along rather quickly.

This giant hanging flag has greeted those approaching Bristol for many years.  It is a privately owned flag hanging over the front yard of a private residence.  Just so you know, nobody lives in the home.

Now, here's a cute little house, don't you think?

Even houses on the tiniest little streets are decorated. What you are looking at is the entire length of the the street.

Besides flags, there are many banners and signs.

Here's a nice one.

There are also different decorating touches.

Even cutesy ones like these.

We're getting closer to downtown now.  This is on the parade route.

One tiny little section along Hope Street, which is Bristol's main road.  The parade will pass through this section.  Right after this "spot" is where the houses on one side of the street end and the view of the harbor begins.

Before we go to the harbor area, let's check out a few things in town.  I'm standing in front of the post office, which is right next door to this cute cafe.

A nice place to live even if the rent is high because, after all, the parade passes right in front of it.

Here's a little dress boutique.

Here's the display window of one of the downtown gift and card shops.

This is the most popular little store at this time of year.  This is where everybody will shop if they need or want "just about anything in red, white, and blue".

Maybe some shoppers need a hat, tablecloth, or gift.

Or maybe some need scarves, ties, or an umbrella.

Whatever it is a shopper is looking for, the store is bound to have it.

This large hanging flag is located in the exact center of downtown.

Before heading down to the harbor, let's stop at my place so I can change my clothes.  My mom and dad will be meeting us here, too.

Things aren't quite all set yet, but this will be where tomorrow's food will all be set up (after the parade, of course).  Have a seat while I change.

I'm all ready now, so we can head back out.  I guess I'll have to re-arrange the flowers after I get back home tonight.  They seem to have a mind of their own because they've shifted since I originally arranged them.  Let's head for the harbor.

(I'll see you there in Chapter 2.)

Oh, I feel like such a goof ball!  I entered my reply as a comment and it is located right below.  Sorry.

Thank you.  Practically everybody gets decked out for this holiday, but it's impossible (and silly) to show all of it.  I decided to do this and the following 4th of July-related posts as journals/records for my memories collection, so these will be printed out to save in an album.

Thanks for the photos.  It did not feel like a long post at all!  I felt like I got a chance to walk around Bristol.

So, are you saying I make a pretty good tour guide?  I'm relieved to hear that it wasn't found to be too long and that you liked the pics.

Well I got this message that I have been remissed in my friendship duties.  I am so glad someone is watching over me.  This is just another reminder of how I miss small towns, especially those involved with our history.  We both love our America and you have the right to be very proud of your wonderful town.  Maybe I'm a little bitter lately and needed a good kick in the butt.  Ty for sharing these photos.

I know exactly why you missed this (and some similar) posts and I was not the least bit upset.  But, I did want you to see this (and the others) when you had a chance because I thought you would enjoy them.  That's why I sent you the message.  Sometimes we need to shift our minds onto something else, as difficult as that might be...I thought you might like to have posts like this to do that little distracting.  I'm glad you did come by to see it and, of course, I am happy to hear that you liked it.
