It Won't Kill Ya to Read This Sports Trivia

June 8, 2008 / by donnamg

Yep, sure enough, there will be people who will see the word "sports" in the title and decide to skip right over this.  They see the words "sports trivia" and I might lose more, but I might pick up a few with a little curiosity.  Well, if you've read this much, then DON'T RUN AWAY!  It won't kill ya to read the darn post!

Pittsburgh is the only city in the US with 3 sports teams that wear the same colors, black and gold. ~ (This ought to make things real easy for Pittsburgh sports fans, wouldn't you think?)

More than 1,800 medals are awarded at the Olympic Games. ~ (So, it should be easy to get one, right?)

A bowling pin only needs to tilt 7.5 degrees to fall down. ~ (Is that all?)

The opposite sides of a dice cube always add up to seven. ~ (Go ahead, check it out.)

Golf balls can reach speeds of 170 miles per hour. ~ (No wonder golfers yell "Fore!"  Maybe they should all yell, "Duck!")

 **************************************************************

Ok, now here's my chance to throw in something about my Boston Red Sox!

(What are you laughing at? I swear to you that this IS a real Red Sox logo! They used this logo throughout the 50's.)

Now that you've stopped laughing, you might want to read something about the Red Sox that's nothing to laugh at.  It's what many would say is amazing.

On June 7, 1950, the Boston Red Sox scored 20 runs (!!!!!) against the St. Louis Browns.  The NEXT day, the Red Sox beat the Browns again by a score of 29 (!!!!) to 4.  If you do your math, you will see that in the two games, the Red Sox compiled a total of 49 runs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ~ (Now, ain't that somethin'?)

 *************************************************************

Ok, that's it.  It's over.  Now, that wasn't so bad, was it?

    I stayed the course!!!!! Yey!!!

So 20 runs a game is unusual then, what is the average?

I happen to love sports, so I would have read it anyway.  Some interesting trivia there.  I was surprised about Pittsburgh wearing the same colors; but I like that idea.

Thought the bowling pin trivia was cool........doesn't take much to topple it over - kind of like life sometimes.

    Thanks for the fun post.

Although teams can get scores in the teens, most often games have scores of no more than 8 or 10 runs (points) per team, and some can even be as low as only a half a dozen or less runs per team.

When scores start getting high, it's usually because one team is really on "a roll", or there is a tie and extra innings are being played, therefore points keep adding up because the game gets longer and longer.  But, for any team to score 20 or more runs in any game of any kind, it is unusual.

Joan:  Yeah, have some basic black pants, some gold colored shirts, and you're ready to attend any game for any team!  That's pretty neat!  (Most fans around here go for the Boston-based teams, so red...and blue, too...can go for both the Red Sox baseball and Patriots football teams.  But the Bruins hockey is yellow and black and the Celtics are green.  Oh, by the way, GO CELTICS!)

You're right about the bowling pin and life analogy, queenie...but, there are those pins, even the ones who have been rocked a little, that do NOT fall down!  In spite of the pressure, the attacks, and the hits, they survive!  That's just another analogy for you.
