In an earlier post I mentioned that I was enjoying hunting season in town this year or, to be more specific, I was enjoying this winter's unique season of Gere hunting.
Richard Gere, some highly trained dog actors and their trainers, and a work crew arrived in my little town just in time for my birthday in January for the filming of the up-coming movie, "Hachiko: A Dog's Story". Filming started in the downtown area, but was slightly delayed due to inclement weather. Once that part of the filming was done, though, everything moved to a location just a couple of blocks from my apartment. There was where the filming went on for weeks and where I would head with my weapon (a camera) in hand to watch the action, to catch glimpses of Richard Gere and to, hopefully, get a shot of him. Then, after a few short days of filming in a nearby cemetery (Joan Allen had arrived by this time), the entire cast and crew moved to the city of Woonsocket to do some filming. (This area happens to be near Edie's brother and sister-in-law's house, so they got to do some Gere hunting, too!)
The filming in Woonsocket was supposed to be completed by the end of this week, and the entire "bunch" was scheduled to be back here in Bristol on Monday. Hooray, I thought, Gere hunting season is opening again! But, the re-opening of the season has been delayed.
Parts of downtown Bristol's historic district were due to be closed to traffic this coming Monday, February 25, in anticipation of another round of filming for "Hachiko: A Dog's Story." The shots would mostly be "in transition scenes" for Gere's character's daily walks with the dog from his home (which is the spot in my neighborhood) toward (which is the downtown area) the train station (which is what is being shot in Woonsocket). But yesterday (Wednesday), Bristol Police Lt. Nick Guercia said location managers with the film told him they won't be in town that day and didn't say when they might be arriving.
No reason for the delay was given, however Edie's sister-in-law said that she knows filming is still going on in Woonsocket because she witnessed it yesterday and knew more was scheduled for today. She also pointed out that there had been some delays/lost time in Woonsocket, so maybe this has caused the filming to fall a little behind schedule.
I just hope it is not overly behind schedule! Next week is Edie's vacation and, as I noted in an earlier post, I'm looking forward to some nice, rewarding walks together with her next week. To be able to do a little Gere hunting would be a fine addition, indeed!

So many people are going to be frstrated about this!
AJ
I know the weather has played havoc with some of their progress, but how I wish they would have been here on schedule.
What an oppertunity! Hunt, hunt, hunt!
Well, if the Gere appears I will be there! lol
When you blogged of Little Rody, you added a map. It was so nice to be able to picture Woonsocket on the map as you talked about Gere hunting and the filming. I sure want to see this film whenever it is released, for I will be able to see a little bit of where you are and enjoy The Man for dessert.
Well, thank you. I didn't realize that something in my Little Rhody posts would connect with my Gere hunting posts. (I hope you won't be personally disappointed by the scenes in the movie, though, which are purposely being made NOT to look anything like RI or to show anything that can be easily identified as a RI landmark or scene. I'll have to critique the movie when it comes out to see if I can spot anything that will "show" RI in some way.)
You have 8 days to capture him and send him down here--you don't even have to bother with gift wrapping!!!
Now that they're running behind in their schedule, that will give me a little more time to accomplish that task you are requesting because, if on schedule, the whole kit-and-kaboodle was supposed to be pulling out of here in the early part of the week. So, all I can say is to cross your fingers!
Happy hunting! Sounds like lots of fun! Pictures, please!
P.S. I have fallen in love with the town's name, Woonsocket! It must be an Indian name. I wonder what it means....
I've been trying to get pictures! I have so many of the dogs and only one really bad one of Richard Gere...it's actually not a bad picture in itself, but you would have to take my word for it that it's him. His back is to the camera and he's crouched down petting the dog, so there isn't much to go on in the recognition department. lol
I think I know the answer about Woonsocket, but I'm going to look it up before I say anything...just in case.
Yep, I knew there were a couple of possible answers for Woonsocket, but I wasn't sure what they are. So, I checked it out and kept coming up with the same information...
One tradition says the name derives from the Indian term for "at the very steep hill," while another says it means "thunder mist."
Either one does make sense. There is a steep incline to reach the hill part of the city and one of the state's most important rivers (the Blackstone) runs through the city.
I think the RI names have a distinct European sound to them. Of course, why not with the rich history of the place. I will wait until your critique of the movie so that I will not be searching in vain.
That is so cool. Richard Gere... dreamy. drool for me will you?
Well, ok, I suppose I can drool a little bit, seeing that you asked so nicely. But, that's only if I do get to see him again because there's still no word when he's coming back into town.
