Darn Those Delete Buttons!

February 10, 2008 / by donnamg

How DARE I assume that a "delete all" button appearing with a specific number of items on one page will delete all the contents on that one page!  Why, oh, why would I not be smart enough to figure that I should assume differently?

I had three, yes, I said THREE pages of "notifications".  That's three pages announcing new blogs, new comments, and new replies (plus a couple of friend requests...thank you!) to catch up on.  Oh, so I THOUGHT it would be best to start with the oldest.  This makes sense because some posts are part of a series, and I wouldn't want to read them out of order.  And, the people who wrote the older ones have been waiting the longest, so it's only fair that I get to them first.  So, that's why I chose this approach.

Ok, Donna, start with the last item and work your way upward.  So, I did.  When I reached the top item on THAT page, I decided I should delete those before going on to the next page.  Makes sense, huh?  Well, I could click on each item (in the cutesy little boxes) one at a time and then click on the "delete checked items" button on the bottom of the page.  But, why, pray tell, should I do that if I want to get rid of them all?  So, I clicked the "delete all" button.  Smart choice, huh?

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo, it wasn't a smart choice!  I no sooner clicked on that "delete all" button, and what I saw on my notification page was "you have no notifications"!  What?  Where were my other two pages?  The "delete all" button didn't say "delete ALL all", so I just assumed it meant "delete JUST THIS all"!

Well, I won't be making that mistake again!  (I hope!)  This meant I had to visit each friend's page and check each one for any new blogs.  Then I had to go to each of my own posts to see if there were any comments or replies to my replies.  I even checked other people's blogs that I knew I had already commented on just in case there were replies to my comments.  Oh, how I wished I had not hit that "delete all" button!

Well, I did get all caught up, thank goodness.  Now I can see about coming up with something better than this for a blog and maybe get something worthwhile  posted in here!

(Oh, by the way...I just thought I would mention that, while the "delete all" button in "notifications" will wipe EVERYTHING out, my "delete" button on the blog posting page...for deleting photos from the file...won't delete ANYTHING! I just don't seem to have any luck with those darn "delete" buttons! lol)

I thought I had replied to your comment.  When I came back in to reply to another comment, yours was gone.  I came back later, and there it was but I think I see it as a regular comment.  (See the comment in the box just below this.)

I won't be doing that again too soon, that's for sure!  The funny thing about the photo delete one, though, is that it worked perfectly fine before!  When it failed to work, it never worked again.  (I got a note from Jonathan stating that all of this was being checked out...and "my" uploading problem was going to be checked out, too.)

I KNOW I replied to this already.  I KNOW I replied earlier.  So, where is the reply?  Oh, well, I could be wrong.  I could have thought I replied, but maybe I did reply.  I get soooooo confused.

Looks like we are all having delete problems--I am starting to get annoyed at the whole photo download business--they have certainly have had enough time to fix that and it seems to be a MAJOR complaint.

Yikes!  I think I may be replying to you in IE!!!!!!!!!!!!  The "reply" worked, a box opened, I'm writing in it, and I'm going to hit the "add comment reply" button and hope it works!
