A Brrrrrrrrr-isk Start to the Day

January 4, 2008 / by donnamg

I had to head out a bit early this morning to go tend to the animals I am watching. I left a little later than I wanted to, but it was still quite early for me.

I was well prepared for my few steps out to the car, my three minute journey to the house in town, the few steps needed to get into the house, and then my return trip home. I had my sweat pants on, a long sleeve shirt under my hoodie sweatshirt under my fleece-lined winter jacket on, nice warm socks and closed/tied shoes on, one hood up over my head, and some gloves on.

I've learned that the best thing to do is to dress in layers. It's the best way to benefit from any warmth that might be mustered up in winter months. And, if overly dressed for some reason, it's better to be able to shed some items than to be caught "out in the cold" without sufficient clothing if the opposite is true. I learned that I did not really need the hood on, not once I reached the car, anyway. But, I'm glad I had the other clothes on, for it was chilly, to say the least.

It was 12 degrees without the wind chill being factored in at 7:00 AM when I headed out. I quickly re-learned that a little time out in this type of temperature can wake me up as quickly as any splash of cold water in my face from the bathroom sink! I was wide awake by the time I reached my destination!

Well, I'm home now, back inside where it's nice and cozy and warm. It is supposed to maybe get above freezing today, but the wind chill factor will still keep it feeling like it's in the low to mid 20's. Even with that, it's evident that things are warming up a bit.

It is definitely wintertime. I have to say I shocked everyone at work when I walked in at 2pm today and said that it was actually warmer. After a lot of raised eyebrows, I said I was able to walk from my truck to the building without my scarf or gloves.

Hooray! The warm up has maybe started? I'm going to try to go without gloves when I head out a little later, but I'll have them in my pocket just in case. Gee, I hope it's warmer. [SMILE]

Yes, we are getting warmer today, also--in the 60s--didn't have to wear hood, sacrf, gloves, fleeced lined jacket, etc. and tomorrow back to shorts, short sleeve shirt and flip-flops! [THUMBUP]

Ahhhhh, flip flops. I won't be seeing mine until maybe June? Your cold snaps tend to last like our heat waves. [LOL]

The weather here is crazy--in the teens one day with winds howling-in the 60's the next with drizzle. Variety is the spice of life, I guess.[WINK]

Yeah, I guess it's the variety that keeps us on our toes! [LOL]

Yea I know the feeling, sometimes when I'm walking the warm air is just to much. So I open my shirt to let that warm breeze filter thru. It's tuff trying to enjoy the sun with those luke warm breezes. Some times I have to just sit down and breath in all that nature has to share. Then theres that unswept sidewalk. I know the pains your going thru. ROFLMAO
